INTRODUCTION

It began as the last stand of a failing company.

Well received by many, the company was revived, and continued to produce game after breathtaking game.

That first game was stated by creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi of Squaresoft, to be their…Final Fantasy.

Now, 22 years later, The Final Fantasy video game series is haled as one of the greatest works of video game roleplaying ever, and even has a star on the walk of fame.

OFFICIAL OVERVIEW: SHORT VERSION

Final Fantasy is a media franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi and owned by Square Enix that includes video games, motion pictures, and other merchandise. The series began in 1987 as an eponymous console role-playing game developed by Square, spawning a video game series that
became the central focus of the franchise. The franchise has since branched out into other genres and platforms, such as tactical RPGs, portable games, MMORPGs, and games for mobile phones. As of March 2007, there are twenty-eight games in the franchise. The series has spurred the release of three animated productions, two full-length CGI films, and several literary adaptations.

HISTORY

This project began in January of 2008 when I wanted to begin running a Final Fantasy style game in the MURPG system. The game was short lived however as I realized, that the rules, as written, did not reflect what I was looking for. It was then, to the mild chagrin of my friends, that I set out to begin creating this supplimental set of rules.

I didn't announce it for 4 months, and on May 2nd, 2008, I came out of the RPG creating closet and began asking for volunteers to playtest the game, and read over the rules. Many came, all wanting to see the new system each promising to get back to me. In reality, only 5 people got back to me on this supplement. They were MURPG Board Members: Neros, Goats, Stark, Jeremy and Jusditz, and it is to them, that I owe a great debt of thanks as they helped me refine the system into something legible instead of  the tangled web of half thoughts and bad ideas that it started as.

After three failed launches, finally, as of August 17th, the supplemental rules will be released.

Thanks to:

Neros, for providing me with very detailed and enthusiastic commentary on a series of games you knew very little of. You were my outside perspective into this world, and grounded me when I flew to high.

Goats, Your enthusiasm actually made this supplement actually come to print, instead of staying on the cutting room floor like it was about to. You saved this project man, grats on that.

Stark, A combination of the thanks I gave to Goats and Neros. You were enthusiastic, helpful, and your feedback made me realize a few inconsistencies that I hadn't seen before.

Jeremy and Justidz, You guys forced my horizans to larger fields, as you forced me to innovate and add more than I originally intended. You guys have been a constant force in my roleplaying life, and I'd like to officially thank you for making me a more free-thinking roleplayer.

All of the MURPG Board Members, You guys I have to thank the most. When I was about to give up on roleplaying for good, I found you guys, and you renewed that sense of wonder that I had lost through a combination of burnout, depression and shear exhaustion. The MURPG boards provided me with a way to exercise nearly any facet of my imagination, and I'm still going strong, and I don't think I'll be stopping anytime soon. Those from the MURPG boards that didn't provide feedback on this game, but still deserve thanks are: Wildknight, takewithfood, asawisemansaid, Trouble, ShortStuff and pgholland. They deserve it because each of them has inspired me in one form or another, and…each at one point (with the possible exception of Trouble and asawisemansaid) has kicked me in the shins when I kicked way to high to be healthy.

Thank you ALL for making this possible!
